Data centers in Bulgaria: 1 project mapped
No large data center is being built in Bulgaria yet. The biggest plan is a 3 billion euro AI data center by Brinell Compute, a Munich company, on 809 hectares (about 2,000 acres) of the Rakovski Industrial Zone in Maritsa municipality, north of Plovdiv. Bulgaria's Council of Ministers approved a memorandum of understanding with the company on January 21, 2026, and Brinell says construction will begin this fall.
The project's computing power, customers and financing have not been made public. Brinell was registered in Munich in September 2025 with capital of 25,000 euros, bne IntelliNews reported; the company says it has developed more than 4 gigawatts of energy projects. Local officials told Blitz.bg the Maritsa site would be "a specialized data center with enormous computing power and supercomputers," not a robot factory.
In May, Innovation Minister Tomislav Donchev said the government had authorized three new data center projects: one with the German firm Schwarz Digits, one with another German company and one with a large US developer. The one data center listed below, Equinix's SO1, is in Sofia.
