No large data center is proposed in Boone County. None of the five data center projects announced in Arkansas by May 2026, in Pulaski County, Little Rock, West Memphis, Clarksville and Conway, is here. The county's one fight so far was over a bitcoin mine: in 2023 Green Digital LLC bought land in Harrison for a cryptocurrency mining facility, and residents turned out against it.
"The citizens of this community have come together, joined arms, and...we just flat don't want it," said Terry Brown, who lives across the road from the planned site. The Harrison City Council passed a moratorium on May 25, 2023, but a state law signed that April, Act 851, left cities little power over commercial crypto mines. City Attorney Nancy Cartwright said she knew of no other Arkansas law that "sets aside such a narrowly-defined industry and gives it such favor."
The council repealed its moratorium at a special meeting in November 2023. "If they meet the minimum ordinance guidelines, you don't have any way of stopping it," said Councilmember Mitch Magness. At the time, local reporters said the mine's future was unknown, and there has been no public word since on whether it was built.
