Data centers in Mayes County, Oklahoma: 1 project mapped

Mayes County has hosted a Google data center for 15 years, at the MidAmerica Industrial Park near Pryor. Google opened its first building there in 2011, added a second in 2012, and by 2019 had invested more than $3 billion and employed over 400 people at what state officials called its second-largest data center in the world. In August 2025 Oklahoma announced a further $9 billion of Google investment over two years, including expansion at Pryor and a new campus in Stillwater; Google now says it has put more than $15 billion into the state.

The clearest effect has been on the tax base: the Pryor school district's assessed valuation rose 168 percent between 2011 and 2015, to $325.6 million, and the county's rose 82 percent, to $498.4 million, according to the state Commerce Department. Superintendent Lisa Muller said the district's assessed value has grown from about $80 million to $1 billion over roughly 20 years, funding a new high school and an approved middle school and stadium. Rents rose and housing tightened as workers arrived, which Pryor Information Publication editor Tim Lawson called "more shame on Pryor, not shame on Google."
