East Gate withdrew its application for a 120 megawatt data center on a 130,000 square metre site outside Travagliato, in the Brescia province of Lombardy, Italy, and the withdrawal was reported on September 14, 2026. Mayor Renato Pasinetti said the municipality had asked for the environmental and grid data for ten months and never received it, and that the province would now have to shelve the grid connection request.

East Gate, a Brescia company, had filed on land in Travagliato that had been buildable since 2011, and at 120 megawatts the center would have used about a billion kilowatt hours a year, as much as 300,000 homes. In July Pasinetti said he wanted to know who the end customer was, amid rumors of Amazon or Meta, and raised the health of residents, the water needed for cooling and the waste heat.

More than 300 people demonstrated at the council meeting of July 22, 2026, interrupting it three times, and the Province of Brescia froze East Gate's grid connection request because no environmental assessment or technical specification had been filed. The proposal offered 11 million euros in compensation, which the municipality refused, and included 648 parking spaces.

When the council said no in August, Pasinetti pointed to a newly formed company with share capital of only 10,000 euros, a grid connection request made without municipal authorization, and power figures that had shifted from 300 to 120 megawatts. Residents of Travagliato and neighboring Castegnato, Ospitaletto and Roncadelle had gathered 450 signatures to force an extraordinary council meeting. An online petition against the project gathered nearly 10,000 signatures, and the friction is regional, with recent protests against a 240 megawatt facility at nearby Magenta.
