Nscale Korgen data center, Korgen, Nordland

Aker Nscale, the joint venture between the Norwegian industrial group Aker and the AI company Nscale, plans a 250 megawatt AI data center at Vesterli, just outside Korgen in Hemnes municipality, Nordland, Norway, near the Nedre Rossaga hydropower station. Hemnes council approved the detailed zoning plan on June 10, 2026, as case 34/2026, after the municipal executive board took it up on June 2.

Hemnes put the plan out for public consultation on September 26, 2024, with a deadline for comments of November 28 and an open public meeting in between. The plan, drawn by Tom Langeid of the consultancy Multiconsult, sets aside land for a data center or other power intensive industry, and the documents on display included impact assessments for landscape, biodiversity, farmland and reindeer herding, plus noise, traffic, geotechnical and water and wastewater studies.

The council added a condition that heat from the data center must be made available to warm buildings and businesses inside the plan area wherever technically possible, and that the developer must justify in writing any heat not used. The decision was published on June 22, 2026, with three weeks to appeal, to the municipality at Sentrumsveien 1 in Korgen.

Rana Blad reported in October 2025 that the project is costed at around 100 billion kroner and that Aker is aiming to have it running in 2028, on the same scale as the campus the venture is building at Narvik (Kvandal). The site is still waiting for a power allocation from Statnett, the national grid operator, before large scale construction can begin.

Nscale also runs a 30 megawatt data center at Glomfjord, expandable to 60, where it is looking to reuse waste heat, for example to warm the local swimming pool.
