Wyalusing Data Center, Wyalusing, Pennsylvania

KDI Wyalusing Power LLC, an affiliate of New Fortress Energy working under its Klondike Digital Infrastructure business, is developing a data center on a 335 acre property along Route 6 in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles from Towanda. The data center would run on its own gas-fired power plant, the Wyalusing Energy Center, which received Pennsylvania's air quality approval on October 9, 2025. The state's review memo says the plant "will be used to generate up to 218 megawatts of electricity to power a data center" and will not connect to the electric grid.

The plant would have eight natural gas turbines of 31 megawatts each, 248 megawatts of total capacity. When New Fortress filed the application, the data center itself was to be "owned and operated by a third party whom at this time is unknown," and the exact spot on the 335 acres has not been made public. The same land had a 2019 air approval for a liquefied natural gas plant that was never built; that approval expired.

The project still needs a water withdrawal approval from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, the four-state agency that oversees water use from the river, and a Chapter 105 permit, Pennsylvania's approval for work that affects a stream or wetland, for its water intake. It is not clear whether KDI has filed a land development application with Bradford County. Anyone objecting to the air permit had 30 days from its October 25, 2025 notice to appeal to the state's Environmental Hearing Board.

Bradford County commissioners unanimously adopted rules for data centers on July 9, 2026, requiring a 200 foot buffer next to homes, closed loop cooling where feasible, proof from a utility that it can supply power, and a decommissioning plan backed by financial security. The rules apply only to future applications. Asylum Township resident Sue Corie told commissioners, "There are so many unknowns about data centers and the potential harm that they can create, that I wish there was some way we could slow them down." Commissioner Daryl Miller said he opposes tax abatements for data centers.

Bradford County's planning director has identified possible data center sites in Wysox and Asylum townships as well, though no formal applications have been filed there. The next decisions on the Wyalusing project rest with the Susquehanna River Basin Commission on water and with local zoning review.
