Hubei's data centers are mostly in Wuhan, with a new one under construction in Yidu, in the south of the province. In Wuhan's East Lake High-tech Zone, known as Optics Valley, two government-backed centers stand side by side on Ligou South Road: the Wuhan AI Computing Center, which opened in May 2021 and was expanded in September 2024, and the Wuhan Supercomputing Center, running since November 2022.
The phone carriers have also built in Wuhan. China Telecom's Central Intelligent Computing Center has run since January 2024 and added 300 AI servers in 2025, and China Mobile has a Wuhan AI computing center as well. The supercomputing center, which serves aerospace, genome sequencing and defense work, was built from prefabricated modules, China Daily reported. Huawei, which supplied the AI center's power and cooling equipment, says it was built in 120 days.
In Yidu, the operator Chindata and its new owner, HEC Group, broke ground in April 2026 on a 7.5-megawatt data center on 6.3 hectares near Qinglin Temple in Gaobazhou Town, with an "AI showcase and academic exchange center." No completion date has been given. Bain Capital sold Chindata to HEC in a deal completed in January 2026.
