Jakarta is the hub of Indonesia's data center industry, but new building has moved out of the city to industrial estates to the east, in West Java. Google opened Indonesia's first cloud region from a US company in Jakarta in 2020 and said in May 2025 it was still adding capacity there. In September 2026 Maybank Investment Bank said growth is shifting from the central Kuningan district toward Bekasi and Cikarang, for their undersea cable landings, industrial power grid and water reservoirs.
The biggest new projects sit just outside the city line. Microsoft's Indonesia Central cloud region, which opened in 2025, is in the Greenland International Industrial Centre in Greater Jakarta. DCI Indonesia topped out a 36-megawatt building, JK6, at its Cibitung campus in November 2024, taking that campus to 73 megawatts of power. Maybank named Digital Edge, DCI, ST Telemedia, Princeton Digital Group, EdgeConneX, DAMAC and BW Digital as the main builders around the capital.
Power is the worry. Indonesia had 600 to 650 megawatts of data centers in the first half of 2026, and the industry group IDPRO expects 1.7 gigawatts by the end of the year. "Basically, the data centre industry is very power-hungry and water-thirsty," IDPRO chairman Hendra Suryakusuma said in August, warning of energy shortages without planning. State utility PLN reports a surplus of up to 6.8 gigawatts, mostly on Java, but operators that want renewable power say PLN's green power certificates are in short supply.
