Kanagawa's data center push is in Sagamihara, which is bidding to become Greater Tokyo's next data center hub on land in the Asamizodai and Shin-Isono district created by a land readjustment project. If it fills, the cluster could match or exceed Inzai in Chiba, the current hub, where operators face waits of up to ten years for new power, Nikkei Business reported. In July 2024 Mitsui Fudosan announced a new data center in Sagamihara, part of about 260 megawatts of power across it and a site in Hino, Tokyo.
In July 2026 the Australian group Goodman was chosen to act for the landowners' preparatory association in the northern Asamizodai/Shin-Isono district. It will work with the Sagamihara builder Nakajima Kensetsu on a master plan and on forming a land readjustment association for a new data center campus. Mayor Kentaro Motomura welcomed the plan for the tax revenue and jobs it would bring; in Inzai, fixed asset tax revenue more than doubled in ten years.
