Guanajuato has two data centers running, in San Miguel de Allende and Apaseo el Grande, and a third in development in San Miguel de Allende, the state economy ministry told the newspaper AM in September 2026. The ministry says the two running sites belong to ODATA, part of Aligned Data Centers, which opened its QR04 building in San Miguel de Allende on August 15, 2025; it would not name the third developer. Terranova is also building a data center in San Miguel de Allende that was scheduled for delivery in early 2026; no opening has been announced.
Residents of San Miguel de Allende have spoken out against more data centers because of the water and power they use. Asked about it on September 11, 2026, Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo said new investments must be sustainable and that each company should build its own water treatment and electrical infrastructure so it does not burden the town. She said the projects under review are being assessed by the state economy ministry together with the municipality and the company.
On August 10, 2026, the governor opened a new power plant in San Miguel de Allende's business park, built by Corral Energy for more than $45 million, with 60 megawatts of capacity. The Apaseo el Grande site broke ground on October 11, 2022, at the Amistad Chuy María industrial park, billed then as an $800 million project in two stages.
