The region's data center is in Benguerir, 74 kilometers from Marrakech. The phosphate group OCP and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University set up the Benguerir Data Center in the town's tech park in 2020, with 2,000 square meters of server rooms and 5 megawatts of computing power; it also houses the Toubkal supercomputer, used for research in AI, farming, genetics and climate. Digital transition minister Amal El Fallah Saghrouchni has named Benguerir as one of three places she wants national data centers, along with Dakhla and a site in the north.
Marrakech hosted GITEX Africa, the continent's largest tech fair, on April 7-9, 2026, and data centers were a main topic. The biggest project announced there, the $1.2 billion Nexus AI Factory, is going to Nouaceur near Casablanca, not to this region. The government's planned 500-megawatt data center is in Dakhla, a city in the disputed Western Sahara, also outside Marrakesh-Safi.
