Data centers in Morocco: 2 projects mapped
Morocco is trying to turn its position near Europe and its subsea cables into a data center industry, under the national Digital Morocco 2030 strategy. The largest project is an AI campus at Nouaceur, near Casablanca, from a consortium of Nexus Core Systems, South Korea's Naver Cloud, Nvidia and investment firm Lloyds Capital. Announced in June 2025 at $1.2 billion, it would start with a 40-megawatt phase of Nvidia Blackwell chips and grow to 500 megawatts, running on renewable power under a contract with TAQA Morocco. On March 2, 2026, the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council set aside 666 hectares in Nouaceur for the project, but as of April 2026 the developer said the project "has experienced slight delays," and construction of the first phase had not begun.
The government has separate plans. In July 2025, the digital transition minister, Amal El Fallah Saghrouchni, told Reuters Morocco intends to build a 500-megawatt renewable-powered data center in Dakhla, in the disputed territory of Western Sahara, with no timeline or power source given. She said she wants at least three national data centers, with the others planned for the north and Benguerir. Some reports have confused the two 500-megawatt projects, placing Naver's Nouaceur campus in Dakhla instead.
Existing capacity is small, mostly in Casablanca and Rabat. Oracle opened a public cloud region in Casablanca in April 2026, hosted by N+One's six buildings totaling 4.5 megawatts. Orange Maroc opened a 1.5-megawatt site in Nouaceur in November 2025, and OCP and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University run a 5-megawatt site in Benguerir housing the Toubkal supercomputer. Neither the AI campus's water use nor its renewable power delivery has been published, and no start date has been given for the Dakhla project.
