Data centers in Nigeria: 5 projects mapped
Nigeria's data centers are clustered in Lagos, and the biggest new one has just opened. Kasi Cloud, backed by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, commissioned LOS1 in the Maiyegun area of Lekki in May 2026, the first building on a $250 million campus designed to reach about 100 megawatts of power; the first phase was expected to bring about 5.5 megawatts online. Airtel's Nxtra is building a 38-megawatt campus at Eko Atlantic, and Open Access Data Centres is building a 24-megawatt site in Lekki.
Power is the local problem. Nigeria's national grid has never carried more than about 6 gigawatts for 230 million people and is available about 41% of the time, so most data centers run largely on diesel generators. Diesel power costs roughly 40 to 50 cents a kilowatt-hour, against 5 to 10 cents on the grid in South Africa or Kenya. Kasi says its campus will run on gas, solar and batteries.

Smaller projects are also underway. Equinix's $22 million LG3 at 43 Saka Tinubu on Victoria Island was due to open in the first quarter of 2026, as the first step in a $100 million plan for Africa. MTN opened the first phase of a 4.5-megawatt data center in Ikeja in July 2025, with a second phase for AI computing due in the second half of 2026.
Demand is being pushed by law. The National Digital Cloud Policy, released on August 17, 2026, requires national security and defense data to be hosted only on infrastructure in Nigeria, and financial, health, biometric and identity data to be stored in the country. Federal agencies must build new systems for the cloud unless the technology agency NITDA grants a time-limited exemption.
