Data centers in Qatar: 1 project mapped

Qatar's data centers are in and around Doha, where Google began building data centers in 2023 under partnership deals signed with the government in 2020. The country's next step is a $20 billion joint venture between Qai, the AI company of the Qatar Investment Authority, and the Canadian asset manager Brookfield, announced on December 9, 2025. It plans AI infrastructure in Qatar and abroad, including a computing center for the region, but no site or size in Qatar has been announced.

The Qatar Investment Authority says the country's natural gas gives it an edge in powering data centers, and its head of funds, Mohsin Pirzada, told Reuters the fund was investing in data centers before they were in fashion. Qatar's phone company Ooredoo has spun off its data center arm, Syntys, which recently expanded in Doha.

The 2026 war with Iran brought new risk. Iran struck two Amazon data centers in the United Arab Emirates and one in Bahrain in the first days of the conflict, and an outlet linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard then published a list of 29 "tech targets" in Bahrain, Israel, Qatar and the UAE, including Google, Microsoft and Amazon facilities. Brookfield said in March that the war would not derail the Qatar venture.
