Google's cloud region in Doha, Qatar, Google's first in the country, has been in service since 2023, running on data centers in Qatar. Google opened the region with three availability zones in the spring of 2023, three years after first announcing it in March 2020, but did not share specifications for the facilities. A cloud region is a complex that houses at least two data centers, The National explained, and this one was built with Qatar's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Qatar Free Zones Authority.

More than 2,700 people attended the official launch at the Qatar National Convention Centre in May 2023, according to the free zones authority. Research commissioned by Google projected that the region would add $18.9 billion to Qatar's economic output between 2023 and 2030 and create 25,000 jobs in 2030 alone. "This new region is a strong step towards building regional capacity that meets the needs of the Qatari digital economy, from availability and data residency, to digital sovereignty and sustainability," said Ghassan Kosta, Google Cloud's Qatar country manager. Microsoft opened its own Qatar cloud region with the local firm Meeza in August 2022.

Google Cloud opened a Center of Excellence for training at the Business Innovation Park in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone in December 2024. At a Google Cloud Summit in Doha on September 22, 2026, which marked three years of AI adoption and regional innovation, the company announced a national program of more than 50,000 AI learning opportunities. A ministry official said Qatar's framework agreement with Google Cloud underpins the government's use of cloud and AI, and that more than 40 AI projects are being developed or put in place across government and other sectors.
