Data centers in Busan: 1 project mapped

Microsoft runs two data centers in Busan's International Industrial Logistics City in Gangseo-gu and is preparing a third, larger one. Edaily reported on June 1, 2026 that Microsoft's Korean data center company, 5673 Korea, plans a 125-megawatt building on land in the Mieum area it bought from the city's development corporation in 2025. Construction is scheduled to start in October 2026 and finish in October 2031.

The first Busan data center opened in April 2020; the second, larger Miumsandan building was unveiled on September 23, 2024 with Mayor Park Heong-joon. Edaily said the two together total 85 megawatts of power and put the third building's cost at more than 2 trillion won. It reported that Microsoft was looking to lease neighboring land to speed up construction, and that it plans to add more than 100 megawatts beyond that once power supply is settled, for a cluster of over 400 megawatts at Mieum.

Power is the local question. In January 2024 the Busan broadcaster KNN reported that the city's planned complex of five data centers in Eco Delta City, on 177,000 square meters and asking for up to 360 megawatts, would share a new Singangseo substation of about 1,000 megawatts that must also serve the Mieum industrial area. A KEPCO official told KNN the substation's current capacity would struggle to cover those loads. The city said adding transformers would solve it and was negotiating with the industry ministry and KEPCO; the substation is due by December 2027.
