Data centers in Gyeonggi-do: 1 project mapped
Gyeonggi Province's data center fights center on Goyang, where data centers are planned in five neighborhoods: Deogi-dong, Munbong-dong, Siksa-dong, Sari-hyeon-dong and Hyang-dong. Elsewhere in the province, Keppel said on June 9, 2026 that it had bought land in Ansan for a 60-megawatt data center that already has construction permits and power approvals and is due to open by 2030.
In Siksa-dong, a 16-story data center is planned on a 27,000-square-meter site, about four soccer fields. Kang Soon-mo, who chairs the residents' emergency committee, told the Hankook Ilbo it would sit 54 meters from the apartment boundary, with an elementary school of 1,000 pupils less than 200 meters away. The developer applied for a building permit in September 2024 and passed the city's planning and building reviews with conditions, but has not broken ground. The Goyang city council passed a resolution against the project in February 2025.

On November 25, 2024 about 100 residents of Munbong, Sari-hyeon and Siksa rallied at Goyang City Hall, saying a nursing home with about 800 residents and a church visited by about 3,000 people sit near the Munbong site. At Deogi-dong, Magna PFV, a GS Group construction affiliate, had its five-story data center permit nearly canceled after almost 6,000 residents objected, then won an appeal to Gyeonggi Province and was cleared to build on the original site, DCD reported.
In Gwacheon, data centers are planned on five business parcels in the Jueam district; residents say the site is 25 meters from an apartment complex due to open in September 2028. Korean building law treats data centers as broadcasting and communications facilities, so neighbors get no advance notice of a permit. Of 112 data centers built or under construction nationwide, only 26 ever held a resident briefing or public hearing.
