Galicia's one large data center project is Galicia Green Data Center, planned on four plots totaling about 40,155 square meters in the Curtis-Teixeiro industrial estate in Curtis, A Coruña. It would be one building with three halls, up to 15 megawatts of computing capacity and its own electrical substation, at a cost of just over €50 million. The developer, Ingenostrum, now Nostrum Group and recently bought by the Australian company Iren, has pushed the opening from 2026 to 2027, eldiario.es reported in August 2026.
The regional government, the Xunta de Galicia, is a partner through Impulsa Galicia, a public-private company, and on September 9, 2024 declared the project strategic, which gives it priority and faster planning, environmental and industry approvals. It went out for public comment in January 2025. The Xunta expects about 130 construction jobs and 45 permanent ones, and pitches it as the first large facility to keep Galician companies' and institutions' data in Galicia.
The objection raised so far is to that fast track, not to the site. Greenpeace's Galicia spokesman, Manu Santos, told eldiario.es that the Xunta approves strategic projects on economic grounds without public participation: "Es la Xunta quien decide si es o no de interés para Galicia y dónde se va a emplazar y solo después la ciudadanía puede discutirlo" (the Xunta decides whether it is of interest to Galicia and where it goes, and only afterward can citizens discuss it).
