The Nordic data center company atNorth plans a data center of up to 300 megawatts at Hamre Industrial Park in Långsele, in Sollefteå municipality. The municipality has signed the sale of the roughly 50-hectare site for 175 million kronor, the zoning plan is final, and the site is due to start operating in the fall of 2028, the municipality said in May 2026. The next step is securing the environmental and building permits needed before construction starts.
In May 2026 atNorth and the grid company E.ON Energidistribution signed a deal for a 200-megawatt power connection. That will need a new substation at Hamre and a roughly five-kilometer, 130,000-volt overhead line to the national grid station at Nässe. Cooling methods and water use will be tested in an environmental review handled by the county administrative board.
The municipality expects about 100 to 150 permanent jobs, plus several hundred during construction, and sees a chance to put the waste heat to use. It argues that Sollefteå, one of Sweden's largest power producers, would use more of its own electricity at home, and says household power prices are set on the Nordic market and would not be directly affected.
