Palm Beach County commissioners voted 5-1 on July 15, 2026 to deny Project Tango, PBA Holdings' plan for an AI data center drawing about 600 megawatts of power on 202 acres at 20125 Southern Boulevard near Loxahatchee. PBA has appealed under a state law that sends the dispute to a special magistrate, whose report goes back to the commission. The county's final vote on a one-year moratorium on large data centers was scheduled for September 24, 2026; no result has been published.
The site borders the Arden neighborhood and sits roughly 900 to 1,200 feet from Saddle View Elementary School. PBA wanted nearly 3.6 million square feet, including a 1.03-million-square-foot data center that it said would use 100,000 gallons of drinking water a day. The county Zoning Commission voted 6-0 on July 2 to recommend denial, and the July 15 hearing ran 12 hours with overflow rooms. Commissioner Maria Marino cast the only yes vote; Mayor Sara Baxter, whose district includes the site, recused herself after publicly opposing it.

The denial did not touch a 2016 county approval for 1.2 million square feet of warehouses and a 206,000-square-foot data center on the land, which still stands. PBA is also suing WPB Logistics, a TPA Group company that owns about 60 acres of the site and has explored turning an approved warehouse there into data center buildings through a staff review with no public hearing. Equinix's MI3, a one-story, 19,000-square-foot data center in Boca Raton, is the county's other data center on record.
The moratorium, which passed its first vote unanimously on August 27, covers data centers using 50 megawatts or more and bars splitting a project to get under that line. Commissioners also plan a task force to write permanent rules. "This cannot just be about electricity," said Lisa Johnson of the Acreage Landowners' Association.
