Data centers in Canyon County, Idaho: 1 project mapped

Canyon County's one data center project is small by current standards. T5 Data Centers won a conditional use permit from the Nampa Planning and Zoning Commission in 2025 to convert an existing 80,000-square-foot industrial building at 8300 Birch Lane, one of seven in the Park 84 industrial site about 20 miles west of Boise, into a data center for a single user. T5 told the commission its power and water needs would be "minimal" compared with other data centers: about 2.5MW at first, rising to 8.25MW over two to five years in five phases, with air cooling. Idaho Power confirmed it has the power available at the site. The company projected 11 full-time jobs, technicians and security staff, once the building is running.

The larger projects and the pushback are elsewhere in the Treasure Valley. Meta runs a data center near Kuna, and in September 2026 the Bureau of Land Management confirmed that Rhea Data, a subsidiary of Arevia Power, had applied to build a four-million-square-foot data center with an on-site natural gas plant on federal land near Blacks Creek Reservoir, southeast of Boise. "I honestly don't know how we would be able to keep up with that in terms of energy demand, water demand, in the region, which is already so tight," said Lisa Young, director of the Sierra Club's Idaho chapter. T5 has not said whether it has begun converting the Nampa building or signed the single tenant the city's staff report described in 2025.
