Compass Datacenters is building an eight-building data center campus in the I-20/59 industrial park in Meridian, announced in January 2025 as a $10 billion investment, a figure that includes the computer equipment its customers will install. Groundwork began in June 2025 and the first building went under construction in February 2026. Each building is to be about 250,000 square feet with 40 megawatts of computing power, 320 megawatts in all, and Mississippi Power is to supply around 500 megawatts.

The pace depends on power. Compass expects to build roughly one building a year for eight years, the Meridian Star reported, while Bill Hannah of the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation said the goal is "to have two buildings complete and operational by December of '26." The state gave Compass 10-year income and franchise tax exemptions. Compass says each building will employ about 30 people, 240 to 300 in all, and use a closed-loop cooling system that will not draw continuously on local water.

At a Board of Supervisors meeting on May 18, 2026, residents questioned the project's transparency, noise, generator emissions, property values and air quality. Megan Clearman said the public had not been given enough information about the project or its impacts. Supervisors answered that such projects often begin under confidentiality agreements and that the tax revenue could pay for roads, bridges and schools. "I would rather be on the front end of something than to be on the rear end of anything," Supervisor Joe Norwood told officials from other counties in September.
