Broome County's data center sits in the village of Endicott, the birthplace of IBM. Global AI runs a data center across two buildings there, including 1701 North Street, which IBM originally built; a nearby Bloom Energy fuel-cell system supplies it with an added 9.36 megawatts of power. The company claims it holds the largest cluster of Nvidia GB300 processors in New York, Data Center Dynamics reported. Both founders came out of IBM: co-founder John E. Kelly III created IBM's Watson and spent nearly 40 years at the company.
The county's biggest development fight is not over a data center. The Broome County Industrial Development Agency plans a technology park of more than 500 acres off Airport Road in the towns of Union and Maine, modeled on Onondaga County's White Pine park that drew Micron. The agency says it will support 7,000 jobs. "We look at this as a generational investment for Broome County," said its director, Stacey Duncan. Neighbors say they do not know what would be built there. "We still don't know who is planning to build over here. Are we going to have to worry about our water supplies, our wells?" said John Feehan. "If we had wanted to live in the city, we would have lived in the city," said Diane Sattler. "We moved out here for a reason."
At a packed Maine town board meeting, resident Bob Utter said: "There's been no transparency from the IDA ... This project is a ghost." The Town of Maine sued the agency, accusing it of buying property before environmental reviews were finished; according to the agency, a State Supreme Court judge rejected the suit. The public comment period on the draft environmental impact statement ended in May 2026, and the county is now preparing a final statement, Spectrum News reported.
