Google is building a $500 million data center, known as Project BOSC, on 373 acres of former farmland off North Cole Street and Bluelick Road in American Township, about seven miles northwest of Lima. Construction is underway, and the county's economic development group says it should be finished by 2030. Google has not said how much power it will use.

The project was arranged in secret. Bistrozzi LLC, a company later revealed as a front for Google, bought the land in 2025, and county commissioners signed a three-year nondisclosure agreement on May 27, 2025. The county cut the data center's property taxes by 75%, with $250,000 a year for 15 years going to Elida Local Schools, and Lima agreed in September 2025 to sell it 5 million to 10 million gallons of water a day for 20 years. Google was named only in March 2026.

Of 325 written comments to the Ohio EPA on the site's 115 backup generators, two supported the project. "This was all done in a very secretive manner, with no public input," said Randy Tooker, who lives half a mile away in Elida. The EPA granted the air permit in late May 2026, allowing the generators to run up to 500 hours a year.

Construction has already reached neighbors. Charlene McCoy, who lives directly east of the site, was hospitalized in April after weeks of construction dust, and the Ohio EPA said it asked the company to contain it. Google sent residents a flier about wells losing pressure or water: "We sincerely apologize for any disruption or concern this may be causing you and your family." The Allen County Port Authority has delayed planned roundabouts "to allow for adjustments in response to public input."
