Data Centric LLC, a New York City company, cancelled its planned data center at the Great Stream Commons industrial park near Allenwood in August 2025, pulling out of a deal to buy a 37-acre lot there, in Union County, Pennsylvania, for $2.7 million. The sale agreement, backed by the real estate and investment firm KSR Capital, was signed in May 2025 with a 180-day due diligence period and $100,000 held in escrow.

"We received an official termination notice from the data center at Great Stream Commons. They have pulled out of the deal", said Shawn McLaughlin, Union County's planning and economic development director. "They are stating that in their sole and absolute discretion, they have decided not to proceed with the acquisition of the property as per the executed agreement. Because it was within the contingency period, they can do that, and do not lose their initial deposit held in escrow." "It is challenging to land any project with significant infrastructure demands in rural Pennsylvania because it is rare for a development site to have all the necessary utilities at the capacity the industrial user needs", he said. Little is publicly known about Data Centric, DCD noted. Union County Commissioners Chair Preston Boop said in March 2026: "We were told once before that (PPL Electric Utilities) does not have the ability or the will to provide enough electricity for a data center there."

The industrial park has since drawn a far larger plan from another New York City developer, PNK Group, which wants four data centers in Great Stream Commons, starting in a vacant 500,000-square-foot warehouse at the southern end of the park. More than 100 people, many wearing red, came to the Gregg Township supervisors' meeting on May 4, 2026 to oppose it. On August 20, 2026 the three supervisors unanimously suspended new data center development for at least 180 days while they review the zoning ordinance; the pause does not affect PNK's application.

PNK has asked for a curative amendment and conditional use approval that would permit data centers in the commercial manufacturing district, and the supervisors closed their hearing on it on September 14, 2026. They have until October 29 to decide whether to allow data centers in the commercial manufacturing district at Great Stream Commons, by adopting PNK's ordinance or writing their own, and will announce the decision at a special meeting in October.
