Jet.AI data center, Moapa, Nevada

Jet.AI, a company that pivoted from aviation software to data center development in 2025, plans a 50 megawatt data center campus on about 20 acres in Moapa, an unincorporated community in Clark County, Nevada, in a joint venture with the construction firm Choo Choo Express. Under the agreement announced in December 2025, Choo Choo Express would provide the land, subject to definitive agreements and due diligence, and Jet.AI expects to put in about $10 million over two years toward a project costed at about $500 million, roughly $400 million of it debt. Jet.AI says it builds only after tenants are secured, and none has been announced for Moapa; no construction timeline has been given.

The site sits beside the former Reid Gardner coal plant, once rated the nation's dirtiest for carbon dioxide emissions, which NV Energy shut down in 2014 after the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians and the Sierra Club sued over contamination, and demolished in 2020. The property now holds the Reid Gardner Battery Energy Storage System, which stores up to 220 megawatts; Jet.AI has not said whether the battery system would supply power to its planned data center.

Clark County has become the site of a broader fight over data centers: more than a dozen people spoke at a Commission meeting in June 2026 to protest a Switch data center expansion, and in July the commission discussed data center rules at Commissioner Tick Segerblom's request but took no action on a moratorium the Sierra Club and others had asked for. "We need some type of ordinance," Segerblom said. "Let's try to get ahead of the game." Commissioner William McCurdy II said: "I believe that we should look for a uniform standard of what we would require of those looking to construct data centers here in our valley."

The Clark County Commission, which oversees Moapa as an unincorporated town, has not adopted a data center ordinance or moratorium, while Reno, Henderson and several rural Nevada counties have adopted or are considering their own. Jet.AI's website says a power study for the Moapa site is under way and the project is advancing toward final documentation; no tenant or construction date has been set.
