Data centers in Clark County, Nevada: 7 projects mapped
Clark County cannot legally ban or pause a data center, so what it does is attach conditions to new ones. In June 2026, commissioners approved Switch's LAS 19, a 56,800-square-foot building on nine acres near Warm Springs Road, next to the company's Core Campus, already the largest cluster of data center space in Southern Nevada. Switch agreed to help build a landscaped barrier separating a public sidewalk from Warm Springs Road traffic, after months of public comment.
Sierra Club biologist Marija Minic told commissioners data centers were "destroying communities, driving climate change, consuming resources and enriching tech billionaires"; Commissioner Michael Naft said the LAS 19 building would use closed-loop cooling with near-zero water use and run on renewable power. Commissioner Tick Segerblom pushed instead for a countywide ordinance on water and electricity use, and on July 7 commissioners said they would develop data center standards; the county has since tightened its heavy industrial zoning rules, the main tool it has.

The county's only other operating data center, Google's Henderson site, opened in 2020 and still uses evaporative cooling, which the Southern Nevada Water Authority banned for new commercial buildings in 2023. The Las Vegas Review-Journal called it the state's thirstiest data center, reporting 352 million gallons consumed in 2024; Google's own 2026 sustainability report puts the figure at 239.4 million gallons for 2025. Henderson's council rejected a proposed 180-day moratorium in July 2026 and told staff to add water, noise and setback rules to its development agreement process instead.
Gov. Joe Lombardo signed an executive order on September 19 requiring companies that want a state tax abatement to pay local school and sales taxes in full and meet local water standards. What happens next: Nevada legislators take up a statewide data center bill in 2027, and Clark County's new zoning standards are still being written.
