Pace, a new data center developer based in Austin, Texas, is planning the Lone Star Project, a data center in Glasscock County, Texas, with an initial 100 megawatts of power from natural gas generated on site. Founders Preston Stein and Chance Pressley announced the project in April 2026 and say the campus could eventually grow to 1 gigawatt of power, though they have not set a date for when it would open. The project is proposed and no vote is scheduled.

Pace says it has already lined up the natural gas supply, land, water and fiber connections the project needs, and it will seek extra power from ERCOT, the Texas grid operator, for later phases. Stein, who comes from the oil and gas industry, said the project "is being built around speed to power, disciplined execution, and long-term scalability." Pressley said the goal is "to build a durable platform in Glasscock County grounded in real infrastructure site control, water, fiber, and substantial behind-the-meter gas positioning," meaning power made on site rather than drawn from the grid.

Texas law leaves counties such as Glasscock with little power to regulate data centers, since a 2023 state law blocks local governments from imposing rules stricter than the state's, and Governor Greg Abbott has ordered a statewide audit of data centers' energy and water use.
