Nothing has been built at the Reeves County site in the Permian Basin of West Texas that trackers list as a solar data ranch, and there is no solar in the plan. In September 2025 NRG Energy and the landowner LandBridge agreed to explore a 1.1 gigawatt natural gas power plant beside the Waha gas hub, which NRG would build only if it first signs a long-term contract to sell the power to a data center operator.
Air permit applications and grid connection requests have been filed, and the companies say it could begin operating at the end of 2029 if a customer is found. LandBridge, formed by the private equity firm Five Point Infrastructure, holds about 277,000 surface acres across Texas and New Mexico.
