Vantage JNB1 Waterfall City data center, Johannesburg, Gauteng

Vantage Data Centers' Johannesburg I (JNB1) data center campus in Waterfall City, near Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, is being built out to 120 megawatts of power across three buildings. In September 2026, South Africa's Competition Tribunal cleared the sale of the first building, JNB11, to a fund managed by African Infrastructure Investment Managers, w.media reported. The second building, JNB12.1, has been completed, according to Attacq, the real estate company that developed it with Vantage.

Attacq and Vantage formed a 50:50 partnership to build the unfinished shell of that second building, a four-hall facility of 10,363 square meters under a 20-year lease, DCD reported in March 2025. Attacq valued its half of the building at about R628 million and said JNB12.1 would support an initial power load of 12 megawatts, rising to 16 megawatts over time. In the JNB11 sale, the buyer, Main Street 2156, takes over the shares Vantage held in the companies that operate and own the building, and regulators found no competition concerns.

Vantage signed a 20-year agreement with SolarAfrica in 2022 to supply up to 87 megawatts of solar power to help run the campus, and it says a closed-loop water system keeps water use in cooling near zero. Vantage says the campus will reach its full 120 megawatt capacity as JNB12 finishes construction.
