Akershus holds the data centers that serve Oslo, but the grid around the capital is full. In a letter to Elvia, the region's grid company, Statnett said there is no capacity in the transmission grid for large new consumers in Oslo, Akershus and Østfold, and that capacity would not be available until 2030 to 2035. "It is a serious situation for our customers," said Elvia chief executive Anne Sagstuen Nysæther. Elvia said it aims to squeeze 20% more capacity out of the existing grid, is offering conditional connections while it waits for new lines, and is creating an energy coordinator role to help large customers.
The biggest operator in the county has kept building within the capacity it already had. Green Mountain, owned by Israel's Azrieli Group since 2021, runs a campus in Enebakk, southeast of Oslo. Its latest building, a three-storey, 9,600-square-metre, 10-megawatt data center partly leased to an international technology company it would not name, brings the campus to 41.5 megawatts, with more than 50 permanent jobs on site and 10 to 15 more expected.
