Data centers in Montgomery County, Alabama: 1 project mapped

Meta is building a data center campus in Montgomery, recruited so quietly that Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said the state's economic developers knew the company's team only by first names for two and a half years. The $800 million campus sits on 1,500 acres across Interstate 65 from the Hyundai assembly plant; Meta has since added two more buildings, growing it to nearly 1.3 million square feet and more than $1.5 billion, with the first building expected to go live by the end of 2026.

Meta's community engagement manager, Henry Thornton, told WSFA in August 2026 that "we pay for all of the electricity that our facility needs, and all of the generation required," and said Meta restores a gallon of fresh water for every gallon its cooling uses. The company says it is bringing 227 megawatts of renewable power online in Alabama. More than 1,000 construction workers were on site in August, and the servers were expected to start handling traffic within six months.

DC BLOX is also building a two-building colocation data center in Montgomery, WBRC reported. Next door in Lowndes County, developer Cloverleaf Infrastructure has requested 1,500 megawatts of power from Alabama Power for a separate project, Project Red Clay, which has drawn strong opposition there; it is a Lowndes County project, not a Montgomery County one.
