Meta's Montgomery data center is being built off Interstate 65 in Montgomery, Alabama, across from the Hyundai automotive assembly plant. Meta announced the project in 2024 as an $800 million, 715,000-square-foot facility in Montgomery County, optimized for AI. In September 2025 Meta said it would add two buildings, taking the campus to nearly 1.3 million square feet and its total investment to more than $1.5 billion.

Meta says the campus will support more than 100 operational jobs once complete, with more than 1,000 skilled trade workers on site at peak construction; the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce put the construction workforce at more than 1,500. Meta says the site's energy use will be matched with renewable energy and that projects it supports are adding 227 megawatts of clean power in Alabama.

Terri Michal, who is calling for a statewide moratorium on data center construction, worries that large data centers could overwhelm Alabama's power grid and pull attention from local problems such as sewers. "I feel like our priorities are off, and no one knows yet what this is going to look like," Michal said. Henry Thornton, Meta's community engagement manager, said the company pays for all the electricity and generation its facility needs, so no one's bills rise because of it, and that Meta restores a gallon of freshwater to local ecosystems for every gallon its cooling systems consume.

WSFA reported in August 2026 that servers at the campus were expected to begin handling traffic within six months.
