Microsoft plans a data center campus on 128 of the nearly 272 acres of farmland it bought in 2024 off 144th Avenue near U.S. 131 in Dorr Township, paying more than $48 million. The land is already zoned to allow a data center, so the township cannot simply refuse it; instead the Township Board passed a 12-month moratorium in late February 2026, running to about February 2027, to give the Planning Commission time to write new rules. Microsoft has not disclosed the campus's power use, water use or schedule.

Neighbors worry about water, noise and lost farmland. "We are a rural community," Linda Dumond told WWMT at a January protest. At a residents' meeting later that month, Chris Potter said, "They want our Great Lakes. They want our water." The board chose 12 months over the six its attorney suggested, with Treasurer Sheila Reitz, Clerk Debbie Sewers and Trustees Pat Champion and Dan Weber in favor. Speaking for Microsoft, Jonah Miller said the company supported the township taking its time: "We will pay our own way."
