Brooklyn's only data center is not a new build but a 20-year-old telecom hub inside a former shipping terminal. DataVerge, founded in 2003, runs what it calls the borough's only carrier-neutral meet-me room at 882 3rd Avenue in Industry City, the 35-acre former Bush Terminal complex now home to around 500 companies, Data Center Dynamics reported. Under a new 20-year lease, the company holds 50,000 square feet across two floors, with 35,000 more immediately available. It connects to around 30 networks and runs more than five miles of fiber through Industry City's 16 buildings.
The notable number is power. DCD reported that Industry City has a 50-megawatt on-site Con Edison substation, that DataVerge is its biggest user, and that chief executive Ray Sidler said around 45 megawatts was available for future use.

The bigger change is statewide. On July 14, 2026, Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order barring new data centers of 50 megawatts or more for up to a year, which CNBC called the first statewide data center ban in the country. "These hyperscale AI data centers consume enormous amounts of power, truly threatening to outpace our grid's capacity," she said. The Legislature separately passed a one-year moratorium on new data centers of 20 megawatts or more, which Hochul had not yet signed.
DataVerge's Industry City site is already built and operating, so the new pause on data centers over 50 megawatts does not affect it. Whether an expansion into Industry City's empty floors would count as new construction under either order is a question state regulators have not yet answered.
