Data centers in Schuyler County, New York: 1 project mapped
The only data center idea in Schuyler County is at the former Camp Monterey prison camp, 25 acres on Evergreen Hill Road in the Town of Orange near Beaver Dams. Emails released in May 2026 show a prospective buyer asking about "data barns" there, but no application has been filed with the town or county. The county's industrial development agency has been marketing the site since July 2025 through its agent, FLX Gateway.
Seneca Lake Guardian obtained the emails through a Freedom of Information Law request. In a January 23, 2026 email, Greg Hering, identified online as a co-founder of ClearPath Energy, asked FLX Gateway director Judy McKinney Cherry about "data barns at Beaver Dams and other places in the Southern Tier." "I only need 4 acres, lots of power and gas," one email reads. Cherry described "three productive wells and a wastewater treatment facility" producing about 140,000 gallons of water a day, next to a 115-kilovolt power line.

The emails also mention food processing, farming, manufacturing and cannabis growing, and they do not confirm any project will go ahead. Critics point to the references to data center conferences, fiber, power and water, and Seneca Lake Guardian raised concerns about energy use, heat and water. The camp once provided more than 100 year-round jobs. "Our objective is to bring responsible, long-term employment back to this property," said County Legislature chair Carl Blowers.
The same site was put forward by the county's economic development partnership in April 2026 as a possible home for a state-backed nuclear plant, answering a New York Power Authority request for information.
