Data centers in Delaware County, Ohio: 3 projects mapped
Delaware County has two large new data center projects and an existing Expedient facility. Amazon Web Services plans a $2 billion campus in Sunbury's Business and Technology Park, between State Route 37 and Vans Valley Road, but the city has paused it until January 31, 2027, and no final site plan has been filed. On November 3, 2026, Sunbury voters decide whether to ban data centers that use more than 25 megawatts of power. In Orange Township near Lewis Center, Cologix is building COL5, a $1 billion data center whose first 25-megawatt building is due this fall.

Records Sunbury released in May 2026 showed how long the Amazon deal was in the works. The city signed a nondisclosure agreement with Amazon in July 2023, created a zoning district that November listing "data center" as a permitted use, and made tax agreements with Big Walnut Local Schools and the Delaware Area Career Center. One analysis modeled four buildings and about 100 jobs, and a water study looked at drawing 2.5 million gallons a day. The city withheld about 11 documents under a new state law.
Sunbury's council voted unanimously for the pause on April 15 at Big Walnut High School, where residents raised health, noise and jobs. "Bringing growth and jobs to this community is not something that Amazon is going to do," said Joe Fuller, who said he works in data centers. In July residents turned in more than 450 signatures for the ban.
COL5, at 6787 Green Meadows Drive near Home Road, drew little dispute. The state approved a 50%, 10-year sales tax break for it, one of the last before Gov. Mike DeWine paused new ones. County Commissioner Jeff Benton named electricity and water as concerns and said he knew of no other data center proposals in the county.
