Data centers in Franklin County, Ohio: 10 projects mapped
Franklin County is one of the country's busiest data center markets. Amazon Web Services has three campuses in Hilliard: on Hayden Run Road, between Cosgray and Leppert roads, and on Scioto Darby Road near Interstate 270. Google runs a data center on the former Hartman farm at 5076 S. High St. in Columbus, and STACK Infrastructure has a 60-megawatt campus on Souder Road in New Albany. Smaller sites include Cologix's COL4 in Columbus and Expedient's data centers in Dublin and Upper Arlington.
The fight in Hilliard is over power. AEP plans a 73-megawatt array of 228 natural gas fuel cells on about six acres to run Amazon's Scioto Darby campus. The city tried to rezone the land, then appealed the state air permit, but state law leaves it little say. On September 15, 2026, Hilliard dropped its appeal. "From the beginning, we knew this would be an uphill battle," Council President Emily Cole said. The city plans to test the air once the fuel cells run.
Southwest of Columbus, towns have paused new projects. Jackson Township trustees voted unanimously on May 12, 2026, for a one-year moratorium on data centers on unincorporated land around Grove City, and Pleasant Township approved one earlier in the year. Grove City's council passed its own pause of up to a year 6-1 on June 1, with a task force and a six-month review. Stream Data Centers has mapped a site of more than 300 acres between Rensch and Beatty roads, crossing both townships, but no application had been filed with Grove City, whose zoning does not allow data centers.
