Data centers in Montgomery County, Tennessee: 2 projects mapped

Montgomery County already hosts one large data center, and its leaders are now saying they may not have room for another. Google broke ground in February 2018 on a $600 million data center at 100 Solar Way in Clarksville, on land bought for the abandoned Hemlock Semiconductor plant, and it has run there since 2019. At the groundbreaking, Google promised at least 70 jobs once the building was finished. The planning commission's director, Jeff Tyndall, says the roughly 400-acre site is buffered from its neighbors and "doesn't seem to bother anybody."

Developers are still looking at the county. Cielo Digital Infrastructure lists a planned 350-megawatt campus on 107 acres in Clarksville, though no local approval for it has been publicly reported. County officials said in September 2026 that a major technology company had recently explored building a large facility in the county before the project fell through, and that the episode made them look again at their zoning.

The result is Montgomery County's first zoning category written for data centers, approved by the planning commission and sent to the county commission. It would allow data centers in industrial districts only after a review, on sites of 10 to 100 acres, and would require a noise mitigation plan with limits at neighboring property lines, disclosure of water sources, and confirmation from electric and gas providers that capacity exists. "I don't think at this point our community would have the water infrastructure to support another site the size of Google," Tyndall said. County Mayor Wes Golden, who backs the rules, said he would have concerns about another large facility "because of the amount of resources."
