AWS Pickaway County data center, Commercial Point, Ohio

Amazon Web Services owns 234 acres on State Route 104 in Pickaway County, Ohio, for a possible data center, land it bought for $49.1 million in a deal that closed December 28, 2023, outside Southern Point between Commercial Point and Lockbourne. AWS has not filed a building plan, timeline or permit for the site since the purchase, and no work has been reported there.

AWS said in April 2024 only that it was "constantly evaluating new locations based on customer demand" and "performing due diligence in exploring possible data center locations." The purchase is part of $7.8 billion AWS has committed to central Ohio data centers through 2029, and the company already runs campuses in nearby Franklin and Licking counties. In September 2023 Amazon also opened a 2,000-acre solar farm spanning Pickaway and Ross counties.

A separate data center fight in Pickaway County involves a different company: EdgeConneX's planned campus in the village of Ashville, where in April 2026 the village council fast-tracked approval by declaring an emergency. In August 2026 the Ohio Supreme Court ruled the council's stated reasons for that emergency declaration were not valid, putting residents' referendum petition back on track for the Pickaway County Board of Elections to decide.
