Cloud Centers Data Center, Lisle, Illinois

Cloud Centers LLC wanted to build a 256,000-square-foot, 50-megawatt data center on the former Lockformer site at 711 Ogden Avenue in Lisle, DuPage County, Illinois, but withdrew its application on March 11, 2026. The site sits across the street from a subdivision and carries a history of contamination lawsuits from the old Lockformer metal fabricating plant, which residents linked to cancers and deaths in the early 2000s.

At a January 21, 2026 hearing that had to be postponed once for the size of the crowd, Mayor Mary Jo Mullen said the site's history "weighs on residents," and a Change.org petition with more than 1,900 signatures raised the 20 backup generators and 40 air chillers the plan called for. After the withdrawal, a village spokesperson said officials "continue to explore additional opportunities for future redevelopment of the site."

Lisle then moved to remove data centers as a permitted use in its I-1 industrial district, a change village documents said would effectively bar new ones unless the zoning code is amended for a specific project. At a May 20, 2026 hearing on the change, several residents spoke in favor and no one against, and the planning commission recommended it unanimously. Village trustees were scheduled to vote on the amendment on June 1, 2026; no result has been published since.
