Hammond approved the largest economic development project in the city's history, and then watched the deadline pass. The city council approved the development agreement 8 to 0 in June 2025, for a data center at 301 Digital Crossroads Drive in Hammond, Lake County, Indiana, built to CoreWeave's specifications and expanding the company's existing presence at the campus.

On July 1, 2026 the city announced that the agreement had expired. It bound four parties: the City of Hammond, the Hammond Redevelopment Commission, Decennial Group and CoreWeave. Certain milestones and obligations had to be met by June 30, 2026. They were not, and two extensions had already been granted. The city said no further extension would be offered, and did not say which milestones were missed. Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr. said: "While we are disappointed that the project did not move forward under the terms of this agreement, we appreciate the time and effort invested by all parties throughout the process." The city said it will keep looking for development at the site, which it calls one of the premier locations for large scale economic development in the Midwest.
