Amazon is building an $11 billion data center campus near 61st Avenue and Colorado Street in Hobart, Lake County, Indiana, part of a $15 billion Amazon investment across northern Indiana. The Hobart City Council approved a 10-year, 100 percent property tax abatement and a 35-year exemption for Amazon's IT equipment in January 2026, and the city issued a fill permit for site grading that February.

Amazon paid the city a $47 million community enhancement payment, with another $55 million due once building permits are issued and construction begins. Mayor Josh Huddlestun said the money would help fix roads, fund public safety and education, and avoid tax increases: "We sought to find good, strong development to kind of offset those losses, so that we didn't have to turn to our residents and put everything back on the backs of our residents."

Four residents, Angelita Soriano, Albina Venegas-Roman, Barbara Koteles and Joseph Conn, sued the city's plan commission and council over roughly 700 acres rezoned from residential to light industrial for the project, saying their due process rights were violated. "We don't know what type of generators are going to use in these buildings we want transparency before approvals happen not after," Soriano said.

Amazon has not released renderings or a final building count, and its consultant told the Hobart Plan Commission in February 2026 that a site plan was still three to four months away. Huddlestun said the campus could have up to 25 buildings and target completion by 2028. The Hobart Plan Commission's review of that site plan and the residents' lawsuit against the city are both pending.
