DeepSeek·Proposed·1,000 MW·announced 2026
Chinese AI developer DeepSeek is planning a 1-gigawatt data center in the city of Ulanqab, in Inner Mongolia, China, according to a Bloomberg report at the end of July 2026. The Hangzhou-based company aims to build its own new facility in Ulanqab, about 350 kilometers northwest of Beijing, while leasing additional capacity from other companies, according to people familiar with the matter.
DeepSeek is pushing to bring at least part of the capacity online by the end of 2027 or early 2028, two of those people said. It is unclear what kind of chips DeepSeek will use for the project. The people asked not to be identified discussing private information.
More than a dozen firms have projects planned in the city, according to a third-party compilation of local government approvals. Inner Mongolia is one of the provinces in China's Eastern Data, Western Compute program, which seeks to place large-scale computing in the country's western regions.
