Google's Madrid data center capacity is its Google Cloud region europe-southwest1 in Madrid, in the Community of Madrid, Spain, which Google opened in May 2022 with three zones and built in partnership with Telefónica. Google has not said which buildings host the region.
The region was first announced in June 2020 and was the first cloud region any hyperscaler opened in Spain, DCD reported. DCD noted that Telefónica runs a large Tier IV data center, Alcalá CDG, on the outskirts of Madrid, but said it was not clear which facilities Google's region uses.
Microsoft and Oracle also announced Madrid cloud regions with Telefónica, and Amazon chose Aragon for its Spanish region, DCD reported in 2022.
Because Google does not publish the region's sites, there is no public permit or hearing to follow for it; any Google-owned build in Spain would have to be announced and permitted separately.
