Google's Osasco data center capacity is its Google Cloud region southamerica-east1, which Google opened on September 19, 2017 as its first cloud region in South America, serving São Paulo, Brazil, with three zones.

Google said the region could cut round-trip latency by 80 to 95 percent for customers in Chile, Argentina and Brazil compared with its U.S. regions, and let customers pay in Brazilian reais. Dotz, Contabilizei and Movile were among the Brazilian companies Google quoted at the launch.

Brazil is now writing national rules for data centers. On September 1, 2026 the Senate passed bill PL 278/2026, which creates the Redata tax regime and removes federal taxes on imported electronic and IT components for data centers; the Chamber of Deputies had already passed it, so it goes to the president for signature. In return, companies must use clean or renewable energy, keep water use for cooling at or below 0.05 liters per kilowatt-hour, invest 2% of the value of tax-free purchases in Brazil, and reserve 10% of their data center services for the domestic market. The government estimates the tax break at about R$5.2 billion in 2026 and R$1 billion in each of the next two years. Civil society groups criticized the bill as not debated enough, arguing in a joint note that "Soberania não se resume a instalar servidores em território nacional".

The next decision is the president's signature on Redata, which would set the terms for any new Google capacity in Brazil; Google has not announced one.
