CoreWeave data centers: 6 sites mapped

CoreWeave sells AI cloud computing and is expanding fast. On its second-quarter earnings call in August 2026 it reported 4.2 gigawatts of contracted power, and aims to have more than 3 gigawatts running by the end of 2027 and more than 8 gigawatts by 2030. Asked if growing local opposition could slow those plans, chief executive Mike Intrator said moratoriums "are not going to impact the demand for this infrastructure. They are going to impact where this infrastructure gets built." His comment followed New York's yearlong statewide pause on environmental permits for new large data centers.

Its most contested site is in Kenilworth, New Jersey, where a $1.8 billion, roughly 400,000-square-foot data center is under construction on the former Merck site on Galloping Hill Road; the mayor expects it finished by the end of 2027. The borough council approved it with little notice, and by spring 2026, with building underway, residents were rallying against it and a petition to stop construction gathered more than 1,500 signatures. "We're going to have major issues with the water in the future, with so many data centers being built," resident Rosa Joseph said. Mayor Linda Karlovitch said CoreWeave would pay sales tax on its power and fund required transmission upgrades.

In Lancaster, Pennsylvania, CoreWeave is the sole tenant of a $6 billion data center at 216 Greenfield Road, a former printing plant site, starting at 100 megawatts with room to grow to 300. The city said existing zoning already covered the use, so no council approval was needed; about 20 residents objected at a July 2025 meeting. Resident Emma Burgess said the first 100 megawatts would use as much power as at least 85,000 homes, in a city of about 21,000 homes. "We all know these are not wholesale trade and storage facilities," resident Amy Ernst said.
