Edged data centers: 5 sites mapped

Edged US wants to build Project Atlas, a data center campus of three buildings, an administration building and a warehouse totaling about 1.5 million square feet, on more than 400 acres in South Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania, next to Parkland High School; the plan is for 725 megawatts of power.

At a September 23, 2026 planning commission meeting, the company's attorney said it was not seeking approval yet and would return with a revised plan. Commissioners took the proposal under advisement and pushed their decision deadline from October 31 to December 31, 2026; no further meeting has yet been scheduled.

More than 3,000 people had signed a petition against the project by April 2026. Company executives say the nearest homes would be more than 1,000 feet from the buildings and the high school almost 1,700 feet away, that closed-loop cooling would use no water from the township's municipal system, and that the project would bring more than $8.9 billion in investment and more than $16 million a year in tax revenue.

"The only acceptable outcome is no data center," said Greg Sussman of the South Whitehall Civic Alliance, which is demanding a public hearing where residents can challenge the developer and present their own witnesses.

Edged is also building elsewhere: a campus on the former Tilford Yard rail property near downtown Atlanta; a reduced, two-building project in Council Bluffs, Iowa; and an 8-megawatt plan in Prichard, Alabama, that could be halted by a moratorium on data center permits the city council began discussing in August 2026.
