Aragón, around Zaragoza, has about 30 data center projects in the approval process, ten of them already backed by the regional government, with more than €47 billion committed and about 2,500 megawatts of power projected, Hoy Aragón reported in August 2026. Amazon Web Services accounts for €33.7 billion: it already runs data centers in the region and has waited since 2024 for a 300-megawatt grid connection for a new complex at La Cartuja in Zaragoza. Microsoft plans campuses beside Puerto Venecia in Zaragoza, in La Muela and in Villamayor de Gállego.
Blackstone's Campus Rhodes at Calatorao is planned for up to eight data centers and 650 megawatts, its budget grown from €7.5 billion in 2024 to €11.8 billion. In August 2026 it emerged that INAGA, the regional environmental agency, had given it a simplified review, which takes about three months instead of a year. Noisy work must happen between July 15 and February 15, outside the lesser kestrel's breeding season. Carlos López of Ecologistas en Acción said he believes the developers are trying to speed up construction because opposition keeps growing.

Microsoft's Puerto Venecia project faces 349 objections from the group Salvemos los Pinares de Venecia over a plan to dump almost two million cubic meters of excavated earth at a closed landfill beside the pine woods. In Villamayor de Gállego, Microsoft's 81-hectare site has power approved only for a first 50-megawatt phase. In January 2026 Tu Nube Seca Mi Río and Ecologistas en Acción challenged the fast-track "general interest" approval of Amazon's expansion, and the Superior Court of Justice of Aragón admitted the case weeks later.
A draft Spanish royal decree put out for comment in late August 2026 would require 80% of a data center's power to come from newly built renewable plants, with six months for projects already in process to adapt. Aragón's government prepared objections before the consultation closed on September 4; its energy director, Yolanda Vallés, said the combined conditions would make installing almost any data center unviable.
