Google is building a data center at 411 Pegasus Parkway in LaGrange, confirmed in April 2026 as the company's second in Georgia. Google says it will cover the full cost of the site's power and infrastructure and is funding utility upgrades for at least 50 LaGrange families. A second, unbuilt project, Fertile Ground Investments' proposed 600-megawatt campus near Hogansville, is still working through a land purchase and rezoning.

The Hogansville project, run by Fayetteville developer Luis Matta, would sit on 437 acres the city agreed to sell for $12,000 an acre under a non-disclosure agreement officials kept for 18 months; residents learned of it only after an open records request. "It's infuriating," said Hogansville resident Paula Darden. The city has since refused to rezone land for it: on August 17, 2026 the council voted 4-1 against creating a heavy industrial district, then extended its moratorium to a September 8 meeting; no outcome from that meeting has been published.

LaGrange rejected a separate $9.7 billion, 600-megawatt proposal called Project West in March 2025 when the council would not annex the 513 acres it needed. The city now requires a special-use permit for any new data center; one is pending for a 134-acre site on Pegasus Parkway proposed by the developer Fairpoint, recommended for approval by planners in July with a public hearing that was due by September 22.

Troup County itself adopted a 17-page ordinance in 2026 requiring a special-use permit for every data center, confining them to heavy industrial zoning with a 1,500-foot setback and Tier 4 diesel generators; the Troup County Anti-Data Center Coalition said it did not go far enough.
